Teton Bros. Layering Concept (Trekking)
Share
In this column, we will introduce some Teton Bros. layering ideas (Spring/Summer 2025 products) for trekking and climbing.
What constitutes "comfort" varies from person to person depending on the mountain range you are heading to, the weather when you are out and about, the amount of sweat you produce, etc. We hope that this information will be helpful when considering layering, by learning about the role of each layer and the functions of each product.
Trekking Layering
Teton Bros. recommends layering for trekking during the summer mountain season.
When climbing high mountains or on long-term mountain trips, it is essential to be prepared for changes in weather and drops in temperature. A rain shell is a full-featured shell jacket and pants that are waterproof, breathable, windproof, and durable.
When you're out and about, wear a highly absorbent, quick-drying base layer over a quick-drying synthetic shirt, and we recommend trekking pants that are lightweight, quick-drying, and stretchy so they don't restrict leg movement. For cold weather clothing, active insulation with a good balance of warmth and breathability is recommended. It also wicks away sweat, so you can wear it comfortably on cool mornings.

The jacket and pants are made of a lightweight, waterproof, and breathable material that is highly abrasion-resistant, having been tested over 200,000 times. The shell pants are designed to withstand the rigors of wear, often rubbing against dwarf pine and rocky surfaces. The three-dimensional cut and stretchy material allow for unrestricted movement.
The Yari Jacket, WS Oze Jacket, and Yari Pant are fully functional shells suitable for mountaineering and long-term mountaineering, including alpine areas. The jacket features a full zipper for easy on and off in sudden rain or changeable weather.
The ventilation on both sides, which opens diagonally, increases ventilation efficiency around the armpits, where large arteries are located close to the body surface, resulting in a cooling effect. It also features easy opening and closing, even when carrying a backpack. The hood is compatible with alpine helmets, and the slightly wider cuffs make it comfortable to wear with gloves, and the Velcro fastenings keep out wind and rain.
The WS Oze Jacket has the same basic functionality as the Yari Jacket, but is designed with a pattern that is tailored to the female skeleton.
The Proof Pant has a silhouette that is neither too wide nor too narrow, even when worn over trekking pants, and its three-dimensional cut means that you can bend and straighten your knees or lift your legs without any stress.
In addition, the side zipper opens wide from below the knee, making it easy to put on and take off even in the rain.
[INSULATION] Keeps you warm in the morning and evening

Active Warmth is a great way to keep warm in tents and mountain huts during the spring and summer. It's also great for chilly days when you're out and about. Teton Bros. offers a lineup of Active Warmth products that use their unique "Stretch Octa Bonding" technology, which combines lightweight, warm, and breathable synthetic insulation material "Octa" with a Primeflx outer fabric.
The Slick Hoody features Stretch Octa insulation in the front and shoulders and upper arms, where warmth is needed. The back is made of a single, breathable outer layer, ensuring a comfortable, cool, and comfortable environment inside the garment, even when carrying a backpack.
It also has excellent protection against the cold, with a hood that fits snugly around the head and cuffs made of stretchy, quick-drying material.
The Slick Pants, which have Stretch Octa mapped onto the entire lining, are versatile pants that can be used all year round, not just at high altitudes in the summer.
[PANT]
Does not impair leg movement
The features required of trekking pants are that they are lightweight, quick-drying, have a three-dimensional cut and stretchability that does not restrict leg movement, and a tapered silhouette that improves visibility of the feet.
The Sky Pant is one of Teton Bros.' spring/summer pants, offering the most relaxed fit. (The photo shows the 24SS model.)
The biggest feature is the spiral-shaped draping of the knees and the stretchy fabric, which allows for smooth knee movement when lifting your legs. This reduces stress on your legs even during long trekking sessions. Furthermore, the water-repellent properties of the fabric maintain a certain level of water repellency even when walking through morning dew or in a sudden downpour.
[SHIRT]
Breathable activewear
A single T-shirt or long-sleeved shirt is sufficient in the forested area near the base of the mountain, but as you go up in altitude you will want to add another layer. There are many options, such as soft shells, wind shells, synthetic shirts and vests, but be sure to choose something that is breathable and allows sweat to escape easily.
The Sweet Water Shirt is a windshell shirt characterized by its tear strength, abrasion resistance, and ability to stay away from the skin when sweating. It offers a good balance of wind resistance and breathability, blocking the wind while releasing heat from inside the garment to prevent overheating. In addition to being windproof, the durable water-repellent surface repels light rain. The snap buttons on the front can be partially opened to allow air to enter the garment, improving ventilation efficiency. (The photo shows the 24SS model.)
[BASE LAYER]
Sweat-wicking and quick-drying properties

The main role of a base layer, worn directly against the skin, is to manage sweat. If sweat cools the body, the risk of hypothermia increases, even in the summer mountains.
Therefore, materials must be able to quickly absorb sweat and spread it throughout the fibers to promote drying. The speed and amount of moisture absorption, as well as the ability to diffuse and dry, vary depending on the material.
Teton Bros.'s spring/summer staple base layer, the "Axio Lite" series, is a wool-polyester hybrid. It retains the benefits of wool, such as its natural antibacterial and deodorizing properties, while maximizing the diffusion, quick-drying, and durability of polyester. It effectively absorbs sweat and quickly keeps the skin dry, making it comfortable even during summer trekking and other high-perspiration seasons.
