CLIMATIC JACKET development story

Teton Bros. is committed to the breathability of materials and uses the next-generation waterproof and breathable material "Täsmä" as the main material for all of its shell products.
Each product (shell jacket: 3 models) is created based on the functionality of the flagship TB Jacket, which is designed for backcountry use, and is tailored for activities such as ice climbing and alpine climbing.
In this column, we will introduce the inspiration behind the development of the "Climatic Jacket," which was developed for alpine climbing, and how it differs from other shells.
When Teton Bros. was founded, it was still a fledgling brand, and didn't have the resources or the strength to offer multiple models. Therefore, when developing its first model, the company focused on backcountry use, but started with a versatile fall/winter shell top and bottom that could be used anywhere, for any activity. This resulted in the TB Jacket and TB Pant, released in 2008.
Five years later, they released Tsurugi Jacket, and Climatic Jacket three years after that, in 2017.
While the Tsurugi is more of a piece born from a completely new concept, the Climatic is an extension of the TB Jacket.
The TB Jacket was designed to be versatile, but we narrowed down its use to create a shell specifically for ice and alpine climbing.
Specifically, while following the basic design of the TB, the material is made lighter and more stretchy. To make up for the lighter main material, stronger materials are used around the shoulders and waist where durability is required, and the overall silhouette is shaped to create a slim fit.
While retaining details such as the helmet-compatible hood and angled ventilation, we've added new features to the two chest pockets, which are often used while climbing. They're angled to make it easier to reach in even from the cross direction, and to prevent items from falling out. This is because the pockets on your pants and bibs become unusable when wearing a harness.
The most important feature is the range of motion of the shoulders.
Although it is slimmer overall than the TB Jacket, the Climatic actually has more fabric around the shoulders. This is because it is designed to reduce stress around the shoulders when the arm is raised overhead, assuming the movement of swinging an axe.
The Climatic is a niche product designed for winter climbing, but of course it's also comfortable for backcountry skiing and other winter activities.
Thanks to increased awareness, the number of orders is thankfully increasing every year. In particular, the width of the body is narrow and there is no excess fabric that clings to the body, so it seems to be popular with many slim-built people, whether climbing or skiing.
By the way, "Climatic" is a portmanteau of "climbing" and "automatic." It comes from the desire to climb smoothly and without stress.
