Teton Bros. Layering Ideas (Spring to Snowy Season)

Spring is the season when the cold weather eases and you can easily run around the snowy mountains in light clothing.
However, it can be a difficult time to choose what to wear, as when it's sunny it can be as hot as summer, and when the weather worsens it can even snow.
In this column, we will introduce the layering approach recommended by Teton Bros., mainly for backcountry and skiing.

Learn about the role of each layer and the functions of each product to find the layering that works best for you.

[SHELL]
Blocks snow and wind

The role of a shell is to keep out snow, wind, and rain. Protection takes priority over warmth, regardless of whether it's winter or spring, and this is true all year round.
The weather changes easily during the transitional periods between seasons, making it difficult to choose the right clothing. On sunny days, the weather may be warm enough that you can remove your shell and wear only a mid-layer, but if the weather suddenly turns bad, the cold rain will chill you, and as you climb higher, the rain can often turn to sleet or snow.
The shell must be made of a waterproof and breathable material. On top of that, if you expect the temperature to be high and you'll be carrying it in your backpack for a long time, a thin and lightweight model is best.

The Serac Pant is a super stretch touring pant that can be worn from the peak season to the remaining snow season. Designed for use on touring skis, which require long periods of walking, it emphasizes stretch and durability.

[MID LAYER (ACTIVE INSULATION)]
Temperature and humidity control

Teton Bros.'s mid-layer items include a lineup of models that use a variety of high-performance materials with different levels of warmth and breathability, from a breathable padding material called Active Insulation to thin grid fleece.
The basic idea is to prioritize warmth over breathability in cold seasons, and choose highly breathable clothing in the warm spring.
Understanding the functions of materials and being able to choose the right model for your needs and situations will make spring activities even more comfortable. Some people even love wool shirts with snap closures, like street wear. This is also unique to the warm spring weather.

Among Teton Bros.'s active insulations, the Coccon Jacket and Slick Hoody, which are partially equipped with "Octa," emphasize breathability.

[BASE LAYER]
Sweat management and heat retention

As temperatures rise, the moisture-wicking properties of your base layer become even more important, and your favorite merino wool knits will likely be too hot during the colder months.
Teton Bros. then developed a composite material made of wool and polyester.
"Axio" is a material that combines the benefits of both polyester, which has excellent moisture absorption and quick-drying properties, and wool, which is soft to the touch and has natural antibacterial and deodorizing properties.
By improving the moisture diffusion ability of wool, which is a weakness of wool, quick-drying performance has been improved. "Axio 3D" is recommended from autumn/winter to spring, and "Axio Lite" is recommended for the warm seasons after the snow season.
