Teton Bros. Layering Ideas for Summer Trekking
Share
In this column, we will introduce some layering ideas from Teton Bros. for the summer mountain season in the Northern Alps and other areas.
The temperature at high altitudes is lower than at sea level, and it is essential to be prepared for sudden changes in weather and temperature.
What constitutes "comfort" varies from person to person depending on the mountain range you are heading to, the weather when you are out, the amount of sweat you produce, etc. Learn about the role of each layer and the functions of each product, and find the layering that is best for you.

[SHELL]
Protect yourself from rain and wind
A fully waterproof shell is essential for any mountain trip. Even in the middle of summer, being caught in the rain without rain gear can lead to fatal hypothermia.
Especially for high altitude mountains or long mountain trips, it is better to have a full-featured rain shell, YARI JACKET & PANT (WS OZE JACKET for women).
Although you won't often need to wear it when doing light trekking in low mountains, it's still a good idea to keep it in your backpack. In that regard, the ultra-lightweight FEATHER RAIN JACKET & PANT is a good choice.

[INSULATION] Keeps you warm in the morning and evening
The lightweight and compact lightweight down jacket takes up little space in your backpack, making it a reliable ally when heading to high altitude mountains.
It's essential in the chilly mornings and evenings at the tent site or in the mountain hut, or when you go to see the sunrise. Even during a daytime break, you can quickly pull it out of your backpack and put it on. If you have room in your luggage, down pants are also recommended. It's safe to say that light down jackets are now the norm for summer mountain climbing.

[SHIRT]
Breathable activewear
A single T-shirt or long-sleeved shirt is sufficient in the forested area near the base of the mountain, but as you go up in altitude you will want to add another layer. There are many options, such as soft shells, wind shells, synthetic shirts and vests, but be sure to choose something that is breathable and allows sweat to escape easily.
We recommend a windproof shirt, with snap buttons on the front for easy temperature regulation. However, avoid cotton shirts, which absorb sweat and take a long time to dry.
[BASE LAYER]
Sweat-wicking and quick-drying properties
The main role of a base layer, worn directly against the skin, is to manage sweat. If sweat cools the body, the risk of hypothermia increases, even in the summer mountains.
Therefore, materials must be able to quickly absorb sweat and spread it throughout the fibers to promote drying. The speed and amount of moisture absorption, as well as the ability to diffuse and dry, vary depending on the material.
Teton Bros. base layers come in two main types: synthetic fiber types with high moisture absorption and quick-drying properties, and hybrid wool types with excellent properties.

[PANT]
Does not impair leg movement
The features required of trekking pants are that they are lightweight, quick-drying, have a three-dimensional cut and stretchability that does not restrict leg movement, and a tapered silhouette that improves visibility of the feet.
Teton Bros. offers a wide range of trekking pants with different uses, comfort, and materials, but they all share the same main functions.
The most important thing is to be able to walk for long periods of time on undulating trails without stress.
