[TB JACKET & PANT] The ever-evolving shell

We received a column about the "TB JACKET" and "TB PANT" from Akihiro Tatemoto, a ski guide and head of the mountain guide office "NORTE" who lives in Otaru, Hokkaido.

Teton Bros.' flagship model, the TB JACKET & PANT, is a shell that is constantly evolving.
From the first model to the latest model, it has undergone numerous updates to reach its current state.
I have worn dozens of jackets from various brands over the years, but I have never known any other brand that has stuck to one model as consistently as TB JACKET & PANT, pursuing comfort and performance.

As a mountain guide, I wear my snow jacket and pants almost every day for about half a year, from late November to mid-May, both for work and leisure. They are like work clothes, so to speak. However, even the slightest problem in terms of functionality or usability can cause stress in harsh environments. This can have a negative impact on climbing and skiing, and ultimately cause problems with safety management as a guide. Therefore, being able to wear them continuously without stress is extremely important.
My ideal shell is one that's so comfortable you won't even notice you're wearing it, no matter what the conditions.

It's no easy task to balance conflicting elements such as waterproofness and breathability, as well as weight, cutting, stitching, zipper slickness, ventilation placement, and durability, while pursuing a high level of overall comfort. In that respect, the TB JACKET & PANT are noteworthy.
The TB JACKET & PANT has received numerous feedbacks from skiers in the field, leading to repeated changes to the details, and has been thoroughly designed to be user-friendly, developing better shell materials together with the manufacturer and regularly updating the jacket, resulting in a model that is so comfortable you won't even notice you're wearing it.

First of all, the TB JACKET. The cut around the shoulders makes it easy to move in any direction while wearing a backpack, and the cuffs make it easy to put on and take off even while wearing gloves.
The placement of the ventilation is excellent.
The underarm ventilation found on most jackets is difficult to open and close while wearing a backpack, so I rarely used the ventilation on a jacket from another brand I used previously because it was too much of a hassle. However, since I started using the TB JACKET, I've started using the ventilation more frequently even while I'm on the move. By opening the left and right ventilation vents, I can efficiently circulate the air inside the garment, and when there's a strong side wind, I can open only the downwind side, allowing for more precise temperature regulation. It's easy to open and close at any time, and has a wide range of adjustment, making it extremely easy to use.

The reason the TB PANT is so comfortable to wear is because its three-dimensionally cut pattern, which takes into account the movement of the lower body, is combined with excellent materials to provide a stress-free, comfortable fit. Personally, the thing I like most about it is the zipper that goes all the way around the abdomen. It can be used as a bib, and when it gets warmer in early spring, you can quickly remove the bib portion and use it as pants. I prefer to keep my abdomen area loose, so I mainly use it as a bib, but I think it's very unique that you can easily choose between bibs or pants depending on the situation. This system is also extremely convenient when using the toilet in the field.
Other brands have systems that allow you to relieve yourself without taking off your jacket, but I've never seen a system like the TB PANT from any other brand. Because it's such a simple system, when I first put it on I wondered, "Can it really be used?" But when I actually used it, I found it easy to operate even while wearing the jacket, and now I can get things done quickly even in bad weather, and I can put it on and take it off even when I'm feeling around in the dark.

As a result of continuing to seriously pursue what users and manufacturers want, the desire to "create the best shell imaginable" is firmly reflected in the product.
That's the TB JACKET & PANT.
However, what is best today may not be what is best tomorrow. Three, five, and ten years from now, Teton Bros. and TB JACKET & PANT will be pursuing the "best" of the times.

I can't wait to see how it evolves in the future.
